[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] ie compatibility view slideshow doesn't load

In texting nextgen gallery on ie8 in compatibility view, the slideshow loads the first time that I land on a page with it. However, if I navigate to another page and then back to a page with the slideshow, I just get the circular “waiting” gif forever. (see: https://screencast.com/t/SBFEGztWLvk8). The problem resolves itself if I refresh the page.

Is there any way around this?
