[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Is it possiblt to link from a gallery image to a singlepic page/post?

  • I’ve begun exploring the nextgen gallery plugin, and quite like it so far. I’m interested in having static album and gallery pages, with posts for each individual photo, as I’d like to blather on about the individual photo in a traditional post/blog fashion. Creating the link between a gallery represented in an album to the associated gallery page was easy enough with the gallery management interface, but I haven’t yet been able to find a way to navigate from an photo in a gallery to an independent post with a singlepic.

    Any ideas on how this can be accomplished? Or if there’s a simpler way to accomplish the general idea I’m aiming for, I’m open to a different architecture.

    Few things provide inspiration as promptly as posting a question on a forum. Or perhaps it was eating dinner. At any rate, I realized that I could embed a link to a standalone post (one with a singlepic for the relevant image) into the description text for the image in a gallery, and then add a custom field of “ngg_gal_ShowDescription” to the gallery page, with a value of “desc”. This would allow someone who was browsing through the gallery to travel directly to a picture specific post.

    This basically accomplishes what I want, although it’s a bit of a stylistic kludge, so if anybody has any other ideas, I’m still eager to hear them!

    And the thing that will mostly quickly highlight the flaws of ones solution is, again, posting it to a forum. While the method described above does work, it seems that having a href link in the description field of picture in a gallery breaks the title display (at least on a singlepic item) where it exposes the effect code as displayed text on the page.

    For example, instead of rendering the title as

    Picture Title

    , it is rendered as:

    Picture Title” rel=”lightbox[singlepic14]” >

    Is this something that’s an issue with the Nextgen Gallery, or should I be escaping the link in some fashion?
