NextGEN Gallery supports the standard roles from WordPress.

I will recheck my code if this can be reworked for the future, but currently you should use an external Capability Manager ( as mentioned )

See roles.php -> function ngg_get_sorted_roles() , this needs to be reworked

Can you recommand a particular plugin that would do the trick? I think this capability would be absolutely perfect to use with s2Member and many members DO use s2Member.

OK, i might need some guidance here. I installed the Capability Manager plugin, as you suggested. All the roles i need (really i only need ONE from s2Member and it is s2member_level1), has its capabilities set, as i want them to. That is easy and straightforward. Now, if i want to use the NextGEN Public Uploader that added role does not appear in the list for Minimum User Role. Is there a way?

NextGEN Public uploader is a addon plugin , ask the author… It may work different

Oh, i didn’t realize they were from different author. However, even with NextGEN gallery itself and using the Capability Manager plugin, i cannot get only one role to be the minimum level, if it is not a native WP role. It does not seem to “take it”. Any other suggestion?

I think you din’t get te difference between roles <-> capabilities, suggest to read this first : https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Roles_and_Capabilities

I know what the difference is, but i am unsure how to get another role to be used withthe NextGEN plugin. I am using s2Member plugin, which adds 5 other roles to WP. When i go Gallery > Roles#Capabilities > Add gallery / Upload images, i have these roles in the pull down list: Administrator, Author, Contributor, Editor, Subscriber, s2Member_level0, s2Member_level1, s2Member_level2, s2Member_level3, s2Member_level4 (the last two being created by s2Member plugin). I want to limit the access to NextGEN (therefore the capabilities) to members with the s2Member_level1 role. Is that possible in any way?

It should be possible via the capability manager, there you assign the caps to your new roles

Whenever i check with the Capability manager, the s2Member-level1 does have the assigned capabilities i want to use in the NextGEN, which is only NextGEN Manage gallery and NextGEN Edit album but this is as far as it goes since there, i cannot assign the s2Member-level1 role inside the NextGEN panel itself. Unless i am looking in the wrong place.

In addition, s2Member_level1 does NOT have access to the backend, or the dashboard, so the only way for the member to upload an image would be from the front end, which is why i got the NextGEN Public Uploader
but then, the s2member_level1 does not appear in its list of roles to be assigned. So in a way, i am turning in circle.

And btw, is there some documentation for NextGEN in general since when i am testing, i am not sure where i am supposed to look to find whatever image has been uploaded by whatever role/member.

if a role has no access to backend it will not work

AH! that explains then. Thank you. I will look for a work around. I still wonder if there is documentation somewhare like a step-by-step?

No, I never created a docu
