[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Uploads not working

I’m using the latest version of the plugin on a WordPress multisite. It works perfect in my main blog but on any new sites in the network it doesn’t. When I upload it says the upload is successful but no thumbnail is generated and if you go to manage the gallery the photos are listed but not actually there.
