• Hi,

I’ve just upgraded to 2.7 WP and your latest Next Gen version 1.0.2.

In the past I’ve used the sidebar widget to produce 8 thumbnails of random photos from my galleries. I did not want them constrained to a set side due to abnormal stretching of the thumbnails. So, I use to use a size of width 0 and height 0. This worked in past giving me different sized thumbnails but properly sized ones.

Now, I try 0 x 0 in the gallery widget settings but it produces little grey boxes and no images (I assume the 0 x 0 setting is making them very small to see now).

How do I get round this? Ideally, u need a new tick box in the widget settings saying:

Do not Resize thumbnails [ ]

But how do I fix this for now because the re-sized thumbnails in my sidebar look aweful ??

    Thx

    Yep,

The problem is still present even in WP 2.8.1 and NGG 1.3.4

    Alex,

Can you please give us a fix for this problem? We would like to set the thumbnail sizes to 0 x 0 in the widget and let the natural thumbnails appear.

OR set one of the sizes e.g. width = 90 and the code works out the height automatically.

    Thx

I strongly support this. I’m trying desperately to find a workaround for creating un-streched square thumbnails, but no luck at all.

Some time ago (another blog) I used Lazyest Gallery but that doesn’t work with WP 2.8 – but the creation of square thumbnails was unproblematic there. Perhaps you can take the code from this plugin?

I would regret it but if there shouldn’t be a fix in the near future I’m afraid I have to look for another gallery plugin. Square and sharp thumbnails are essential, especially for a photographer.

Und falls du das auch verstehst, Alex – es w?re echt prima, wenn du dich hier dranmachen k?nntest. Ist eigentlich das einzige Manko an dem Plugin. ??

    Thanks and Ciao

Always the same with 1.3.5. Very sad ??

    Yep,

1.3.5 NGG and WP 2.8.1 ->>>>> still the same … still no fix

I’m on 1.3.5 NGG and WP 2.8.1 and I also have this problem. Automatic resizing in the sidebar widget is definitely broken.

The NGG widgets.php has this comment on line 256 of the code:

//TODO:For mixed portrait/landscape it's better to use only the height setting, if widht is 0 or vice versa

    When will this be done???

I have found that the thumbnails are rendering very erratically depending on browser. Here’s some info I have gathered while trying (and failing) to troubleshoot this issue.

    They render correctly on:
    iTouch/iPhone OS 3.0+ Safari
    Mac Firefox 3.5
    Mac Safari 4.0.3
    PC Firefox 3.5
    LINUX Firefox 3.5

They do NOT render correctly on (i.e. squished):
    PC IE 6 [EDIT: Erratically]
    PC IE 8.0.6
    PC Safari 3.2.1
    MAC Safari 3.2.1 [EDIT: Erratically]

It’s a pity the ‘squished’ thumbnails appear, otherwise it is a very comprehensive and powerful plug-in. After a week or two of tinkering around with it, I am close to walking away from it ??

    I’m using WordPress 2.8.4.

    just upgraded to Version 1.3.6

thumbnails still not rendering properly (squished width/normal height) in: Chrome, IE8, Safari 3.2.1 on mac

Guys this has been fixed with the latest update. see my site https://www.donaldjenkins.com

    How to.
    Go to Apperance
    Go to Widgets
Side Bar, do the drop down for Nexgen
Look at the “Show” section and do the drop down Thumbs vs Orginal Image.
    Pick Original Image
Set Thumb Size to something like 100 by 100 or bigger/smaller depending on your side bar settings.

    fixed with the latest update

You had me excited there for a minute, but the fix you describe is only for thumbnails in widgets. We’re still having trouble with thumbnails displayed using the nggDisplayRecentImages & nggDisplayRandomImages scripts as i describe above. ??

Thanks for the widget tip though!

can somebody help me the code wherein it shows the original photo not the thumbnail?

    <?php nggDisplayRandomImages(1,590,220,allow,6); ?>

    thanks
