Plugin not importing PayPal shipping methods into cart

    Using PayPal Express checkout with the “PayPal for WooCommerce” plugin, after you add items to your cart and proceed to checkout, PayPal is not importing the shipping costs set-up in the PayPal account.

    I have spoken with PayPal for over an hour today trying to resolve this issue. They said that is a problem with the plugin. My shipping methods are all set up on the PayPal site and when I enter in my live API signature, password and username and when you are redirected to the PayPal checkout, those shipping settings are not applied.

    My shipping costs are based on the cart subtotal. For example, if a customer purchases $0.01 to $25.00, the shipping cost is $5.95 and from $25.01 to $50.00 the shipping cost is $8.50… and so on.

    I would really appreciate a quick response to this question – as it is the only thing left before we can make the WooCommerce site go live!

    Hi ashleymhowe,

    Setting up shipping in your PayPal profile does not work with Express Checkout. That only works with Payments Standard.

    Express Checkout leaves it up to the website/application to calculate shipping, tax, handling, etc. and include it all in the API requests that are sent to PayPal servers.

    This plugin will utilize the shipping calculator(s) that you have configured in the WooCommerce shipping settings. You’ll need to setup shipping costs there instead of within your PayPal account.

    What is Payments Standard? Is that another WooCommerce plugin? Or a stand-alone PayPal product? Shipping cannot be based on the subtotal with WooCommerce, therefore I’d like to import my already set-up PayPal Shipping methods with my site. Do you have any suggestions on how to do that?

    Payments Standard is PayPal’s basic payment method where you can create simple buttons or build very basic HTML forms to send users to PayPal for payment.

    Express Checkout uses the API’s and is more advanced and provides a lot more features for merchants to use on their site.

    Contact me directly and I think I can provide you with a separate plugin that will allow you to do the cart total based shipping.

    @sesingleton, your PayPal account profile settings only work with Payments Standard. This plugin uses Express Checkout API’s. You’ll need to configure shipping rules of some sort within WooCommerce so that they can be passed over to PayPal rather than trying to let the PayPal profile rules take effect (which they won’t.)

    Is there any tutorial or documents available to help us make this happen.

    My shipping via paypal is based on the price of the cart. Is this available within WooCommerce?

    @voice903fm, nothing like that is available by default that I know of. You could search for an existing plugin extension that may make that possible for you, or if you can’t find anything it could always be custom developed. If that’s something you’d be interested in you could submit a quote request and I can get you a bid.
