I’m using version 1.1.0 with Gmail. I set it up and configured. The test email works, and I can see it’s clearly using Gmail/SMTP.

But I have a contact form using Nina Forms, and that works but sends with PHPMailer, which I can see in the email header.

I’m also using Buddypress, and the new user activation email aren’t sending at all, or at least aren’t arriving at their destination.

I don’t think this relates to the recent upgrade issue, but please let me know what I can do to debug this.

    Thanks.

Or is PHPMailer typical when it’s using Gmail SMTP? Should this be working with Buddypress activation emails? From what I can tell, Buddypress is using wp_mail now.

Regarding BuddyPress – check this: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-email-notification-ignoring-smtp-server-settings/

Regarding Gmail – have you configured it via Other SMTP or Gmail mailer. Header will show PHPMailer when you configure Gmail using Other SMTP (where Host = smtp.gmail.com).

Do you have other plugins for SMTP installed and activated?

    Hey Slava,

Thanks for the response. I actually saw that post, but I thought it was out of date and Buddypress was using wp_mail() now for some reason. I guess I’m confused why a WordPress plugin wouldn’t be using it in the first place, but whatever.

I configured your plugin to use Gmail not Other SMTP, and it still shows PHPMailer in the header in the test and other emails. Not sure if this is a concern, but I’d be glad to forward the email to you if you like.

    Thanks.

Can you please put here or in private pastebin the Original Message from Gmail? I would like to see its headers and all that normally hidden stuff. You can remove the reply-to/from emails.

Sure thing. I replaced the email addresses, but this is a test email I just did. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for your help and the great plugin.

This email was sent by Gmail mailer, and generated by the WP Mail SMTP
    WordPress plugin.

I confirm, that when you send through Gmail mailer – the email contains

    X-Mailer: PHPMailer 5.2.22 (https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer)

This will be removed in a next plugin release. So in reality the email is sent through Google servers, but while creating an email to pass it to Google we just do not remove the default PHPMailer header.
