    Hi Chris,

The plugin has stopped working after its latest update. Prior to that, the plugin was working fine. After its COVID-19 update, however, the plugin is not doing anything at all. Thus, we have to be constantly refreshing our RSS feed via the Google Publisher Darshboard (otherwise our stories are not appearing at all).

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi John,

I just ran some tests to double check on things. Google is still being pinged when you have a new post or an update. We didn’t make any changes to the way that works in the previous version, though I did check to make sure it’s still functioning and it is on my test sites.

I checked and your latest articles are being displayed in your feeds…

In the test I just ran, Google updated my feed about three minutes after the ping was sent. I was in the Publisher Center and was using my browser’s “refresh” (“reload this page”) button every minute or so and the third or fourth time it displayed the update and the “updated time” was fresh.

Are you testing and looking for updates in your Publisher Center the same way, or your source page on Google News, or something else?

It was up to date because I pressed the refresh button of the RSS Feed from the Google Publisher Dashboard.

As an example, we’ve published a new article right now but we won’t press the refresh button on the Google Publisher Dashboard. As you can see, the plugin does not update the Google News page and the article is not showing up. RSS Feed is working as our Discord bot (which uses the RSS Feed) has shared the story.

Sorry, went to bed after writing that last post.

I see you set up an ‘rss’ section, and that’s up to date, but the rest of your sections are aged.

I’m not sure what’s going on there. Are all of your sections using the url for the GN Publisher feed, or are some still on the WP default feed?

    Hi Chris,

The “RSS” appears to be working fine now (I deleted the previous one and created a new). The other sections use “web location”, that’s why they are messed up. This has nothing to do with the plugin (and I don’t even know when Google will fix it, if ever).

BTW, when I click a story from the RSS section, it creates a custom page and does not link directly to the website. Is there any way to force the RSS to link to the website? (I’m using the default options. “Rendering preference: website or AMP” and “Generate articles directly from feed”).

Great – Yes, the web locations option has been unreliable. I’ve passed that info on to the news team. It hasn’t worked (for me at least) ever.

    Oh, sorry, missed this –

    > when I click a story from the RSS section, it creates a custom page and does not link directly to the website. Is there any way to force the RSS to link to the website?

If you implement AMP on your site, it will usually reliably display the AMP version of your articles.

If you don’t use AMP, it usually uses the feed to render the article. I have seen a few cases where it will use a non-AMP webpage, but I haven’t been able to figure out why it will sometimes but usually doesn’t… I’ll figure that out eventually though ??
