• Hello, developers. We are having a problem with the Custom Permalinks plug-in ever since we moved all 52 of our websites to https:// and php 7. We also tweaked the theme — it wasn’t a complete change, but I think we changed the child theme. So, the issue could be with any one of these three changes.

We use a Binder PRO child theme. Here is an example of one of the sites: https://cysticfibrosisnewstoday.com

Basically, the plugin just isn’t working anymore; we cannot custom edit the permalink before the date stamp in the URL.

Let me just say that your plugin is amazing, and just what we need for our sites. Being able to custom edit each post allows us to track different content types quickly and easily in Google Analytics. Without it, we lose valuable perspectives on how our content is performing. Any help you can give in rectifying this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @bionewsservices, I suggest you to please switch your theme to any other theme (Maybe default WP themes) and check that after changing the theme permalink start working for you or not.

    Thanks,

Hi @bionewsservices, I have checked the plugin on PHP 7 and it’s working fine for me and it does not rely on the http or https. So, my guess is that the issue is with your updated theme. So, kindly switch your theme to any other and provide me feedback that whether changing the theme solves your problem or not.

    Thanks,
    Sami

Thanks, @sasiddiqui. I just tried another theme and the plugin still wasn’t working. Could the change from https:// to https:// perhaps be the problem?

@bionewsservices I don’t think that http to https would create a problem. But, i am not sure i have not tested the plugin with https.

@bionewsservices can you share screenshot of your edit post?

@bionewsservices I have moved my site from http to https and the permalink still working fine for me. As you can see in the screenshot: https://awesomescreenshot.com/02067lb830

Sure. Here’s an example of what part of the link can be edited:

@bionewsservices Your screenshot is giving me the perception that the Custom Permalink plugin is not activated on your site. Please check the list of the activated plugins.

    Thanks,

@sasiddiqui — it appears to be active in my plugin list:

    (@sasiddiqui)

@bionewsservices it appears to be active but I don’t think it’s working. As you have attached the screenshot of your edit post and I have attached the screenshot of my edit post. Compare both screenshots.

Edit style in your attached screenshot is the default WordPress style(provides OK /cancel) option where custom permalink does not provide you these 2 links while editing the permalink.

I have checked the plug-in with https + PHP 7 and it’s all good for me.

To make sure, deactivate the plugin and check the permalink on edit post it looks exactly the same as it is now after that activate the plug-in again and check whether the issue fixed for you or not.

I don’t think that the issue will be fixed for you in this way but you can try once.

WordPress default permalink functionality is that you can not edit the date, month or year in permalink and it’s same thing as you are facing now.

There is definitely something which is stopping the custom permalink to work.

By the way, have added any new plugin or added some functionality via functions.php?

    Regards,
    Sami

@bionewsservices Any progress… Have you found anything?

I had this same issue. The solution is as follows:

    1. Install the plugin and activate it.

    2. Go to Settings -> Permalinks

    3. Click Save (Note: This will rebuild your links.)

Then you should be able to access all of the pages correctly.

    Hi @luxevoyage,

The process you are defining doesn’t rebuild links. It only flushes the rewrite rules of WordPress.

But, yes you are right sometimes when you switch your site from http to https or https to http. Site face 404 on their pages. Following the process you have defined above may resolve your issue.

    Thanks for sharing this.

Hi @sasiddiqui. I’m sorry to say that I’ve had no luck in getting the plugin to begin working again. Clearly, there is something that we did on our end that is affecting it, but I cannot seem to figure it out. I tried a different theme, but the problem still persisted. I tried re-saving the permalinks, but it also caused problems.

As you know, we upgraded to SSL and php 7, but you’ve indicated that the plugin works fine with these. We also switched to a new server, though I can’t imagine why this would impact the plugin.

Can you think of anything else I could try?

    (@sasiddiqui)

Hi @bionewsservices, Plugin just save the relative URL and work on it. It does not have anything which relates to SSL.

I have tried myself. Created a domain make with http and then move it to https to verify the issue but i couldn’t find any issue.

Permalinks works fine for me after moving to https.

I don’t have much information regarding yet. I don’t provide any solution to you till i can produce this error on my end.

    Thanks,
    Sami
