• Very surprised to find that this plugin does not work with one of Genesis’ most popular themes (Executive Pro).

The tab does show up under “appearance” but there is no option to add my featured image to any of my posts. My needs are pretty simple. I would like the option to add an image to my post and for it to appear above the title in both the blog page feed and the post’s own unique page.

I am currently adding featured images to my blog posts via a method studio press recommended, but my manager would prefer an easier fix. I am getting the feeling that this plugin works off of posts that already have a featured image and dont look the way you want it to look or for a post that does not have a featured image and you want to give it one. All I would like to do is add a unique image to each unique post and have all those unique images show up with their excerpt on the blog page and the unique post page.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give on this matter.

    Thank you.

As long as your theme supports Featured Images, this plugin will work. You may need to check the Screen Options on your post/page editor screen, and make sure that the Featured Image is checked there. I’ve just downloaded Executive Pro here to confirm that it does work with this plugin, and it does, although the theme has a max-width constraint on the entire site, so the backstretch effect is constrained–you would need to modify the theme CSS to get an edge to edge image.

If there is no setting to show the Featured Image on your Screen Options, then my guess is that Featured Images have been disabled somewhere else, either in a plugin, or in code, so you may need to do some digging. Hope that helps get you started.

Hmmm, I’m not completely sure what the issue is then. I wonder if there are different versions of Executive Pro. My version does not offer featured image functionality off the bat. There are no screen options when you download the theme.

What are the steps I would have to take once I found the screen options?

Thank you very much for your help

This post from WPBeginner may help you find the Screen Options. The second image is pretty much what you’ll see on an individual post or page edit screen. If Featured Image is not there, then you’ll need to look through your installed plugins or other modifications to find what might have disabled it. Since the Genesis themes generally rely quite heavily on the Featured Image functionality, I’m fairly certain the theme has not removed the functionality, unless someone has modified it to do so.

I’ve fixed it! Thank you for your advice. Removed a plugin that got rid of the featured image checkbox.

I apologize for the continued confusion, but where can I set the featured images now? There doesnt seem to be clear directions for how to choose a featured image (no buttons that I can see anyway) for unique posts.

    Thank you again,

The plugin works automatically with the built in WordPress Featured Image. All you need to do is click the “Set featured image” link in the Featured Image settings box on the individual post or page. With this plugin, the key will be to make sure that you choose a large enough image (the images I looked at on your site all are), but that’s it. The plugin does a fair amount of math behind the scenes, but the goal is to make the work on your end pretty minimal.

So I would just upload the image to the post and thats it?

Since any post can have multiple images uploaded to it, you need to tell WordPress which is the Featured Image. Here’s more information in the Codex: Setting a Post Thumbnail.

Hmm I think we might be on separate wavelengths. I am very familiar with how wordpress allows you to set a featured image normally, but this Genesis theme seems to throw everything off.

The code/function from the codex that normally would pull the thumbnail/featured image does not work with this theme. There is no option to set a featured image at all on my backend. It is completely missing. I have the checkbox in “screen options” but only because it comes with wordpress. This theme does not offer the option to add a featured image even though wordpress lays down the basis for it. When you downloaded Executive Pro did you see the featured image section in the right sidebar when you were editing the post?

With executive pro there does not seem to be one even when you have the function set up in your functions.php

Genesis and Executive Pro will not do anything to disable this functionality in WordPress. If you want to contact me privately and give me admin credentials on your site, I can try to look into it, but I think that’s the only way to figure out what’s going on at this point.
