When i do a manual backup of the database, it looks like everything succeeds. I download the zip file, open it and find the Database folder, with one file in it – OBFW_Database.sql, which is 0 bytes large.

Here’s my event log from the backup:

    Hi fooleh,

Emailed you the fixed file. But it is odd it needed fixing. A local header was empty.

What version of PHP is your host, do you know? You might need to login to your Control Panel to find out but it should give a PHP version somewhere.

I see the plugin version is 2.2.1 (it says in the ZIP file comments) so you are on latest. I’ll have a look through make sure nothing stands out as what could cause this.

Looks like php is version 5.2.17

    Hi fooleh,

Can you run another manual backup and let me know if you still end up with a 0 bytes file?

Also, are you running a manual download backup with encryption, or without encryption? (As in, does it give you a .enc file or a .zip file.)

    Regards,

    Jason

Jason, see your email. the upshot is, i don’t have access to the sever it was running on before – i was using the backup to transfer the site to a different host, where it now resides.
If running the backup on the new host would be useful, let me know and i’ll be more than happy to.

The file you had was generated unencrypted, but i also tried encrypted (sent to you via email)

    Hi fooleh,

No problem. Glad to see everything got sorted.

Definitely try it on the new host, best to fix the issue as early as possible if it is still there. Maybe it was just a random issue with that old server but best to check!

Did a manual backup on the new server, everything seemed to work fine, got a nice 1.81mb database file this time. Sorry i can’t help you nail down what the problem was, but i’m glad its working for me now.

    new server is running
    PHP – Windows NT SERVER28 5.2 build 3790
and wordpress 3.3.2 if that helps you any ??

Good to know. Well keep an eye out on what might cause the issue! Thanks.

    Hi Jason,

I am coming up with the same problem except nothing is being returned in the zip file. It is a full backup and the enc file is over 1 gb. 1,208,606 KB and I downloaded through the link on the plugin.

    Hi dragonflyfla,

What do you mean when you say nothing is being returned in the zip file? Which zip file are you referring to? Did you decrypt your 1GB encrypted backup or did you do a backup without encryption?

I would HIGHLY advise excluding some folders from your backup by entering some folder paths in the General Settings page as a 1GB encrypted backup may be very difficult to get decrypted until we finish the new decryption process that protects against server time limits and connection timeouts, which may be a few months. The limit I would say you let your backup size get to would be around 500MB maximum, and I’d recommend something more around 250-300MB. Once we get the new decryption methods finished it will be fine to have backups bigger than a GB.

    Regards,

    Jason
