For others that may be looking for same solution… Add any “open external in new window” plugin… it should do the trick… I use:

Try the latest version of the plugin, which supports opening links in new windows regardless of where the link appears (previously only worked in nav menus).

Mine seems the work, only oddly. It manages to open the link in a new window, but also in the current window. any ideas why?
