[Plugin: PayPal Donations] Language of PayPal Landing Page/Invoice

Well, as far as I know, PayPal doesn’t offer any setting that can be added to the form to force the landing page into a certain language. At least not what I’ve been able to find, so the plugin shouldn’t be able to affect what language that PayPal displays.

It’s strange though if the other plugin you linked to has a different behavior concerning language as you noted, especially as they have basically just copied my plugin and changed the name (but forgot to change the name on language files etc ?? ), so that plugin should generate an identical PayPal form button as my plugin does.

If you do find something that controls the PayPal language from the site that sends the user to PayPal, please let me know and I’ll look into it as well.

Technical HTML Variables
Technical HTML variables control how PayPal responds technically when people click Website Payments Standard payment buttons or when third-party or custom carts initiate payment processing with the Cart Upload command. They also control how your buttons interact with special PayPal features.

• lc —The language of the login or sign-up page that subscribers see when they click the Subscribe button. If unspecified, PayPal determines the language by using a cookie in the subscriber’s browser. If there is no PayPal cookie, the default language is U.S. English.
  For allowable values, see Currency Codes.

I’ve just uploaded version 1.6 of the plugin. Included in this update is an option under extras to set a checkout language. I believe this should do it. ??

I can’t find “extras” to set the checkout language. Is this something which has to be changed inside of the plugin, or is this supposed to be an option somewhere that I’m not seeing?

Love the plugin but need the checkout forms in other languages, just like the user above stated. It seems like you have it all worked out but I cannot figure out how to make the changes.

The option should be at the absolute bottom of the settings page, if you don’t see it, make sure you are running the latest version of the plugin (v1.6).

I Johan, and thanks for the answer. Yes, I found the language selector but my issue is that it globally sets the language for all donations to be in a particular language regardless of the language I’m working on translating using WPML.

For example, if I set your widget to Spanish in my Spanish translation, the English donations page is in Spanish.

Is there any way to make your program recognize a site is multilingual and to pick a different language for each?

BTW. Good customer service. I am continually impressed by people who write code and templates for WordPress. Solve my problem for me and I’ll for sure make a donation :). Seriously though, my template author has less than 3 hours turnaround time on his customer service and you are less than a day. What else can I say but I’m impressed.

Multilingual site with a multilingual widget that can recognize the current language setup is what I need. Instead I’ve worked around the plugin by going direct to Paypal and getting custom buttons in different languages hoping they lead to multilingual checkouts. I don’t know if it’s a good work around, but it’s all I’ve got.

JChandlermsw: I want to be very clear with that this is a free, non-paid for plugin, so per definition there exists no customers for this plugin and by that there can also by definition not exist any customer service.

Anyway, back to your request. I am not familiar with WPML, but I’ll take a look and see what it is, and add your request to possible additions for the next version.

Johan, I only meant to compliment you on how fast you responded. I realize the plugin is for free and there is no set tech support, but your answer was so quick it reminded me of all the help others have given me on here and in such a timely fashion.

At first I was hesitant to lock myself into WordPress, but the community is so broad and helpful that if for no other reason I am glad I made the choice.

Wasn’t implying DO THIS NOW… was just asking and suggesting. Didn’t mean to offend at all.

Anyway, as I mentioned, I’m going to see if I can include it with the next update. I took an initial look at the WPML site earlier today, and I noticed that it is a commercial plugin? So it might be hard for me to be able to try my plugin against it as I then won’t have access to it, unless there is a free version available as well?

1. It seems this issue should be moved to it’s own topic: Maybe something to do with PayPal Donations and WPML…
2. WPML will work on this together with the author of the PayPal Donations plugin.

Thanks for the information. I am a big fan of WPML and think it sort of sets the standard for translation apps.

Johan, I don’t know about another thread since we sort of covered everything. My advice is take Baden’s advice. You’d be the only Paypal plugin that supports multilingual checkouts and we sure could use it!
