    Please post a link to your site and I’ll take a look. This sounds like something in your theme since by default there should only be about 10-15px of space between the main image and the pager.

    I tried to hide it by adding a grey border at the top, but the grey border between the images and the controls seem to be absolutely fixed, no matter what I try to change in the css.

    Hi Schwarzgrau,
    If you just want to move the slideshow controls up a bit, you could try adding 

    .slideshow-nav {
	margin-top: -7px ;
}

    to your CSS. Looks good to me.
