Plugin Probelm- "Could not create directory"

So, I’m not sure which category is better to submit this to, but since it’s a plugin I’ll put it here.

I am trying to install a plugin to WordPress. I currently am taking over the redesign of a WordPress site, someone else built up what they have now.

But when I tried to install a plugin for a Child Theme, it gave me the error “Could not create directory”, and proceeded to list a directory I’m assuming is on their end.

Is this a server issue? Or do I need to set up my own directory and point everything to that?

I do not have access to any hosting info also, since the previous person is still running the site from it.
