    Hi,

If I may suggest. I think there should be an option to disallow use of certain usernames especially those usernames that is already registered otherwise someone can impersonate other members.

    Just a thought.

    Thanks

Or at least disallow them to change/use nicknames like admin, superadmin, and moderator.

I guess that will be a good start.

    Thanks

Hi, the thing is that currently Quick Chat isn’t aware of who is on chat. There isn’t single table in database that can give me the information is one username taken or not. This is the functionality that awaits to be implemented by me and when I do this we will have integrated Who Is Online functionality and it would be trivial to check is username taken or not. Thanks for your suggestion and feedback, i value it a lot ??

    Thanks for considering…

But I am thinking maybe it is possible to have a temporary fix in a way like how word sensor works.

Like there will be a box where we can define all usernames that we do not want others to use.

Then if that is used, the same principle how word sensor change the text to “*”, the username will be change to “invalid username”

Well, I am just thinking on top of my head. I don’t know how easy/hard to implement it. In any case I will wait for whatever solution you will come up with this.

    Thanks

What you’ve proposed might be possible but you will probably agree that it doesn’t sound elegant. I will solve this type of problem by adding user online tracking ability ?? Don’t worry this should be implemented by the end of this month because I see some free time on the horizon, but as always I can’t promise timing. Thanks for your interest, enjoy!

No mater what I’ve said in my last post, I did some exploration and I might try to implement this feature you’ve proposed ?? Cheers!

Hi! You can test Quick Chat 1.80 with features requested on https://www.techytalk.info/quick-chat/. For more info you can read my comment here. If it turns out bug free I’m uploading to www.ads-software.com. You can also PayPal donate on TechyTalk.info.Cheers!

did the testing, seems to work perfectly.

step1: logged out so i am non admin

step2: try and use a name in my filter, also registered member username, the shoutbox says to wait while it runs its check, then it shows a warning name already in use or some such msg.

So it works, that it tells you, you aren’t allowed to post using that persons nick, also the post doesn’t go through.

And apparently the filter is not case sensitive which is good, as some people may try to act smart and add in caps here and there to avoid the filter.

So now visitors cannot abuse the shoutbox by assuming registered members and admin identity in the shoutbox.

Anyways great idea and improvement, love it ??

This would also be great for usernames deemed inappropriate, because you could enter into a “blacklist” usernames list. Similar feature in comments, comment blacklist contains words that send comment to spam.
