• Whenever I installed the plugin, all of my uploaded images were removed instantly. I tried messing around with the settings, but no combination of them restored the images. I don’t have very many other plugins, I did change my upload directory to /media/ when I started the site, but that shouldn’t be interfering with the plugin right?

They came back right away after uninstalling. Does this even with all other plugins disabled.

    Hi @shazepe,

WordPress Popular Posts doesn’t really mess with the uploads folders though, it adds its own wordpress-popular-posts folder to it but that’s really all the plugin does. WPP has been around for quite some time now and you’re the very first person to report this kind of issue so I’m a little perplexed haha.

Are you absolutely sure that WPP is what’s causing the issue? Is the problem reproducible? If so, could you please share reproduction steps so I can check?

Update: just created a brand new WordPress site and changed its uploads folder to “media” using define( 'UPLOADS', 'media' ); in wp-config.php, then created a few posts with images to make sure that the “media” folder works as expected.

After confirming that images are being stored on “media” I installed and activated WordPress Popular Posts and the test site is still working normally, no images are missing / deleted.

Note that the only active plugin is WPP. I didn’t activate any other plugins during this test.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes I have that same exact line in wp-config. Here, I just activated the plugin again now so you can see. I’ve also tried changing the theme – but I get the same result. This also happened when I removed all other plugins as well.

EDIT: After enabling the plugin it looks like the location for my images changes to “/wp-content/uploads/” when I inspect them. Any idea how that happens?

No idea to be honest. As I mentioned previously the plugin doesn’t alter the path of the uploads folder in any way. In fact, on the test site I can see that WPP is using the “media” folder path as expected.
