[Plugin repository] readme.txt character encoding

  • Hey there,

    I just stumbled upon a thing that made me wonder. Does a readme.txt enclosed to a plugin “package” need a certain character encoding?

    Thing is, when I edit a readme.txt with Windows’ WordPad (with ANSI, I guess) and upload it via SVN, it obviously cant be parsed and so cant be displayed on the WP.org plugin page. When I edit the readme.txt with my IDE and save the file (with UTF-8) it will be correctly parsed by the plugin repository.

    How comes?
