[Plugin: Role Scoper] in wordpress 3.0 i can’t see the tabs

I’m in the same boat. When I try to edit access to a page, I see the words “Eligible Groups (7):” but there is no tab to choose them from.

Also, after installing this plugin I am unable to edit any of my posts. I try to edit a post and a blank page is presented.

kurtishastie, can you edit your wp-config.php to temporarily set WP_DEBUG to true? Doing so will usually throw some descriptive error messages onto a white screen.

It’s the first time I’ve heard of anything like that happening with Role Scoper and I’d be very interesting in working with either or both of you to track down the cause.

I’m wondering…

1. Maybe you both ran out of PHP memory with Role Scoper installed. Does the WP footer still display in the “no tab to choose from” scenario? Install TPC Memory Usage to get a feel for where you’re at. Role Scoper will typically use 4.5 to 5.5 MB on the backend (I’m working on reducing that).

2. Maybe (due to an out of memory condition or other error) Role Scoper did not deactivate successfully. Have you confirmed that on the plugins page? RS does not do anything to the WP database that would prevent an Administrator from editing posts following deactivation. Unless you manually modify WP role definitions by using the “sync” checkboxes in Roles > RS Role Defs, WordPress configuration data is never changed at all.

Ok…I will log the error later tonight and post what I see. I’ll also throw some screenshots in here so you can see what I’m seeing exactly.

As for the memory issue, I still see the WP footer. Everything looks normal except for not being able to choose users/groups. And the editing of posts. A get a blank white screen for that. I’ll get you the info that you need.

got it working. All I had to do was enable the php_mbstring.dll extension. duh!

Okay, thanks for letting me know. This will also be corrected on my end in the next release. That mb_strtolower() call is by user request, but I failed to consider that it comes from an extension that’s not universally enabled. In fact, a quick googling would have shown matching reports by a couple other users in my own forum. So starting with Role Scoper 1.2.6, strtolower() will be used unless the following constant is defined in wp-config.php:
