Plugin search algorithm problems

  • When you search for a plugin, there seems to be a problem with the results.

    For an example: if you search in the plugin directory for: contact form , contact form 7 shows up on in the middle of the 3rd page! Yet, this is by far the most popular in terms of downloads, active installs and votes.

    I have the same problem happening with my plugins in the directory, but the example is not nearly as illustrative as the contact form 7 example.

    I can’t understand what is happening, it seems as though the results are no longer based on downloads, installs, votes, ranking or last updated.
