    Hi All,
we are planning a E-Commerce site with a broad portfolio of products. For SEO-purposes alone, but also UX we will need lot of different product archives. We’ll realistically end up with a number of 300 archives or more.

While we love what WordPress + WooCommerce have to offer we find the default implementation of categories + tags assignment on product-pages a bit lacking. With many categories one would end up with a lot of scrolling and for numerous Tags one needed to have a clear idea which Tags are at all available.

I know that there’s a lot of 3rd party tools which show a table of all available product and offer in place editing (including categories assignments and tags), but this is not what I’m looking for. I’m rather interested in an alternative interface for assignment of product archives in the backend of product pages.

Does anyone know such a product?

Ideal for non tech savy editors (who weren’t involved with the information architecture) I would consider a wizard which uses cards:

“What’s the brand of this product?” (User clicks button or enters text)
“Is this [brand name] product a shoe or a piece of clothing? (user clicks button)
“What’s the style of this [brand name, shoe]? Please select.”

Please let us know of all alternative implementations :o)

    Hi there,

If you’re keen on a spreadsheet-like interface, you could give the following plugin a go: https://www.storeapps.org/product/smart-manager/

For tonnes of products, I’ve generally found that plugin to speed up admin relates tasks significantly ??

    Thank you RK,
I was familiar with this sort of products – but here I was specifically asking for a tool which improves initial assignment of categories and tags from within product pages. This tool looks quite nice already, as it uses hierarchies in categories but I wondered if there was yet a stronger tool out there, to make a choice from a long list of categories, directly from pages.

We will likely not need a spreadsheet view, as we’ll manage pretty much all product related data with an external ERP (and we would prefer not having to change pages, just to assign categories).

Ah, that’s indeed a nifty plugin you linked to there! With that said, I’m not immediately aware of any other plugins that tweak the category display on the product editor page ??

    Hey @hackespitze

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

If you’re still looking, it might be one option to look for a custom-built solution here – We highly recommend contacting one of the services on our Customizations page for this type of work – https://woocommerce.com/customizations

    Thanks,

    Hi Doug,
my question remained unanswered. Hence I see no point in marking this issue as resolved. I know that custom development is always an option.
