    Hi,

The wordpress site is at https://www.chewingthecud.com/blog

Since most of the posts use off-site images, I turned off Share Image. But when I share a post to facebook, I only get the link of the post as the content, instead of sentences quoted from the post.

I tried turning on Share Image and for experiment made the images of one post (the one with princess leia) the wp-way (insert image in the media library). But when I tried sharing this post, the thumbnail is the Gravatar logo.

    What could be the problem?

Currently the Share Image is turned ON, but when sharing a post without a local image file, the content of the share is only a link, not quoted sentence like the “may the force be with you” post.

    Hey iqbalwp,

Facebook gets the text it puts into a share from the Description in the head section of the HTML page. So in your case there is no descriptions at all on your site, so facebook will not be able to use it.

To make this work for you correctly install and use a SEO plugin, such as platinum SEO, or all in one SEO plugin.

Now for the image in the posts, please can you confirm if you are sharing from the homepage or from the post/page it’s self? If you are sharing from the homepage/main blog page then I would say you need to setup an image for those pages as it can’t be an image from the post it’s self, as the image would be different for each of the 10 or so posts on the homepage.

Personally I setup a site logo for the pages that are shared from the homepage, where as the pages/posts I use the image from the media library.

Hope this helps, let me know if you want more help
    regards

    Hi Andy,

I had set the tagline and had thought that would create a description for the site, but turns out I was wrong. I have all in one SEO plugin now, it’s generating the desc correctly.

For the image in the post, I tried doing it from both while on the post detail page and from the home page. Even from inside the post, the thumbnail is still showing the G logo.

Hmm.. I checked other posts and found that sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn’t. So I suppose it has something todo with fb’s cache.

    Thanks for your help, Andy

    Hey iqbalwp

yep Facebook has a habbit of caching everything for about 24 hours, so the gravatar icon might be on posts that you have already linked to/shared.

glad to hear it’s all working correctly for you.

    All the best
    Andy

    Hi

I’ve a very similar problem: when I try to share a post, the thumbnail is the Gravatar logo.
I’ve tried a lot of combinations with no results (even forcing and andress of a custon image, in this case https://www.ilcorvoeillupo.eu/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/luce90.jpg , for every voice (Pages, Posts, Main Page etc.) in “Setup share image” section
This is a test post: https://www.ilcorvoeillupo.eu/senza-categoria/2010/02/ach/
    Can you help me, please?

    Bye !, Stefano

    Hey VolVoxIta

Facebook Caches share images for approx 24hrs from the first share of a page, so even it will cache the gravatar image you first shared with till later…

on the page you list, this is the share image it will use in future
    https://www.ilcorvoeillupo.eu/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/luce90.jpg

You can double check it yourself by looking at the HEAD section of your HTML and searching for images_src, it will have a link associated with it.

    regards
    Andy

    Oh, very well, Andy.
This is a little boring but not a problem at all :^)
Ok… I’ve restored original settings, I’ve made some targeted changes and… I’ll wait.

Thank you, by now (I’ll give you a feedback) ! Stefano

I’m having something similar to VolVoxIta, but a little different. When I use the share buttons from my site (https://theonlypodcast.com) the image shows up fine, but when I manually enter the site URL into FB’s link button, no image, or description for that matter, shows up. This only happened in the last 48 hrs, as it was working fine over the weekend.

    Ideas?

    Thanks

    Hey Toptm,

Facebook sometimes makes a funny turn and stops working correctly. This is an issue with facebook. Reciently I have seen that on some accounts that when you share a link from your status box it does not put the text you enter with it, but only the link, title, description and image. But on other accounts it works just fine. So I have no real supprise that it does not work the other way round for you. But Hey, I don’t own facebook or their support strategy.

You have to also understand that when you click the share buttons you use the external sharing, and has a different process than the one that you use when sharing inside facebook.

It might also help if you follow the rules of facebook and only use an image that is already the correct size for sharing.

    https://theonlypodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2010_08_14_394-681×1024.jpg

the image size is detailed on the share and follow admin page. It will also help if you make a different description for every page and not the same one everywhere.

“The Only Podcast That Matters – Go on…. Get offended. “

So to put this in to context. Speak with facebook as this is obviously completely in facebook that you are talking about and *nothing* to do with the share and follow plugin. You also might have noticed that facebook completely changed their profile pages the other day (this weekend) and might just be having some teething troubles.

https://share-and-follow.com/wordpress-plugin/donations/ beer money excepted for answering your question that has nothing to do with me.

    regards
