Is there a way to have the gallery in a post pull images from external URL’s?

The situation is that I don’t want to store the images on my server, but get them from the site the photos are on.

I tried inserting the photos using the “From URL” (in the native wordpress photo insertion feature), and then tried to insert this gallery. Choosing the option “from this post” didn’t show me the dropdown I expected to see, and to select.

Once I inserted the same photo that I had uploaded on my server (i.e. in the Media section of WP), then I was able to see the dropdown of posts I can select.

So, to reiterate my question, can this gallery build a slideshow from images on the post that have external urls?

Sorry, that capability is not possible. The “From URL” takes the image that site and saves it into the /plugins/slideshow-gallery-pro/ folder. This is to save page-load time as calling images from various other servers is asking for an issue. In fact a lot of hosts will notice images being pulled from other servers and send a different image instead noting that the image has been locked.

To answer your confusion about the use of “From this post” – that is pulling images from the gallery of the current post or page you’re calling the [slideshow] from.
