  • I have problems with General Settings. But this is not the only plugin that breaks things. Even some plugins that should be compatible, are not. I have found that half of plugins I am using are not working.

Yep… bus after 5 hours of test i find out that the Sociable plugin its ok.. if u try to disable all plugins that create an extra “windows” at the admin panel, such as Next Gallery, Polls, Security Scann ecc, everything its ok… the problem is that the new wordpress 2.8 have new code in css and javascript.. and plugins wich have to do with dashboard create problems… we have only to wait…

P.S Super Cache creates sometimes problems too…

    Headspace2 creates big problems ??

I have find out the soruce of all problems.

WP 2.8 uses much more memory then 2.7.1 was using. But some parts of WordPress use even more. TimeZone part sends requests to WordPress website for some data, and some of those requests interact with some plugins, causing usage of much more memory, and that exceeds the set limit. I experimented, and the list of plugins that interact consist of half of plugins I have installed on my blog. Each of the 8 plugins in question can cause such memory overload, and only one is enough to cause the problems.

This is not problem with plugins, but WordPress. And I am sure that more problems will be unvailed in the following days. I never noticed problems on my local servers I use for development and testing because local PHP is set to 128MB.

This seems to have also been the problem for me, too. The solution was as easy as increasing the PHP memory limit from 32M to 64M, but this is not always ideal or possible—especially for those on shared hosting services, or on VPS hosts with limited amounts of RAM. However, for most people this should solve the issues of the Dashboard and General Settings pages being truncated when certain plugins are activated.

Yeahh i see, this is a bug and hoppe will be fixed as soon as possible from wordpress team. Not all of people have root hosted. Most use share hosts and smth like that. In this way we are having problems.

We have just to wait and see what wordpress team do.

I expect to see 2.8.1 much sooner then I thought, because a lot of people are having the same problem. And increesing memory is not the solution. If something was using 24MB, and now uses twice as much, than there is something very wrong.

I also had this issue and tried manually going back to 2.7 and now the Dashboard is a complete disaster. I am asking my host company to restore. I could not drop down items on the dashboard and many functions did not work.

I restored and Dashboard is finally back. I deactivated Gixax Chat plugin and things seem OK.
