I did some more testing. Seems that it works on one of my sites that is running WP 3.3.2 while it isn’t on 3.4.

You will need a plugin to add the Avatar to the user page. With 3.3.2 I was using a plugin called User Avatar (don’t use this) which broke when upgrading to 3.4. The plugin I currently use is called User Photo and it works great.

I plan to include this feature into Social Author Bio in a future version.

Please let me know if this works for you two.

    Thanks,

It did not work. It still picks up the included WP gravatar functionality. If I choose, no gravatar in hopes that will use the “user photo”, I don’t get anything. I’m trying to understand why not just use the included functionality that’s built into WP? Anyway, hoping this gets fixed as your plugin does exactly what I want minus the photo.

It does use the built in WordPress function get_avatar. Though, WordPress does not provide a default method for setting the picture within WordPress itself. If you have a method of doing this, without a plugin, to set your picture then it must be doing so by some function of your theme. What theme are you using?

I just tested this with a brand new install of WordPress 3.4. With no plugins, other than Social Author Bio, installed and with my user account it uses the Gravatar (https://avatar.com) that is setup for my email address. With a test account, configured with a bogus email, it uses the default user icon (a white silhouette on a grey background).

I’d like to help but I will need to know more about your current installation of WordPress. (i.e. version, theme, plugins installed, etc). The more descriptive you can be the more able I will be able to setup my dev environment to match.

Feel free to send me the info to my email: nick AT nickpowers DOT info as I understand you might not want to post that info here.

First, let me say that Nick well above the call-of-duty to help troubleshoot the problem so big kudos for that.

In short, the problem was a conflict/setting using “Shareaholic | email, bookmarks & buttons”. I’m still able to use the plugin but had the normal share buttons at the bottom of the post **and** a Facebook like button at the bottom too. It was lone FB button that seemed to throw it off. After unchecking that option, presto magic, the gravatar that exists at gravatar.com showed up.

    Thanks Nick.
