Clarelauwerys, I built a custom menu, then added that custom menu as a widget. IN the custom menu region the event categories are right there to be drawn from and create and easy menu. I know it’s not perfect, but it does allow a quick link to the category of events you wish to show… it’s really just a work around. Sadly, it doesn’t show the events themselves.

Although I have had a custom widget built to show events. I have added a “featured” checkbox to the event post pages so I can show what I want in a dropdown of events.

This is the widget code pulling that info:

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. The maximum number of lines of code that you can post in these forums is ten lines. Please use the pastebin]

Obviously that has my own links in there, but replace with your own. Here is the page link to the site under construction:

Yeah, I’ve done it the custom menu way. Which works for me in so much as I’m organised and remember to add new events to my menus.
But there are 4 other people who set up events and they keep forgetting to do the menu bit. (My site organises events in 5 different locations and each location has its own page so needs to list events for just that one location)

As long as they check the category associated with the event, which they’d have to do regardless to pull the proper event into a list, they will show up on the page the category links to. This way you don’t add the events individually, they get pulled in.

Have a look at that code and modify it as needed… obviously I didn’t pull the design code out of it…

Thanks for the assist on this, realmacdaddy. Are there still unresolved issues on your site there, clare? Let us know and we’ll do what we can to clear up anything that remains.

Having followed all of these documentation links, I still don’t see where there is an explanation on how to display by category.

Can someone please post the instructions on how to update a page template to include just one category?

Seems like there’s a need for this.

This worked for me. You’ll have to change the the $pTitle var to the name of your category.

Thanks for the follow-up, harryvl, and the confirmation.

WebDi: can you give harry’s suggestion a go and let us know if your luck improves? Thanks in advance!

I ended up just using the built in category pages then customizing the template with conditional statements to display different content for each category. Not the way I would have preferred, but in the end it worked.

@harryvl, thanks! That code works like a charm. I just used it in conjunction with Linkable Title Html and Php Widget. Does exactly what I need, at least until this feature is built in.

Thanks for confirming as much, WebDi. Glad to hear you got this figured out one way or another. Sounds like based on what I’m hearing from you and karks88, we’re in good shape here so I’m going to go ahead and mark this thread as “Resolved.”

Thanks to everyone for their support and patience so far. Let us know if we can do anything else.
