    found the solution on another post:

    You probably have the default permalinks setting enabled. Change it to one of the pretty permalink structures.

    Worked for me

    I changed my Permalink settings to “Post Name,” which did make the slug visible in the Settings panel, but the “Events” link is still not showing up in the menu on my site. Thoughts?

    Yup, enabling permalinks brings the slug fields into play.
