[Plugin: The Events Calendar] how to assign events to a custom post type?

  • I really don’t want the events input box showing up on all the admin post screens, nor do I want events as a regular post.

    With custom post_types avail in 2.9 and amped in 3.0, what would it take to get this plugin to use a specified post_type so that I don’t have to mess around with any of my loops and can provide a separate ‘events’ interface for managing events?

    I should add, that I do know how to create post_types, and use plugins for the custom UI, so that part I get. It’s assigning the plugin to a post type that I don’t know how to do.

    that’s also an issue I’d like an answere for. I don’t want to have all events shown up on the blog mainpage as articles. If I turn them “private” the event also is private (who would have thought…).

    It would be cool if there was a way to create events which don’t show up on the mainpage as articles =)

    I’m not sure how to address anointed’s question, but for cheeseyfighter wondering how to exclude items from the mainpage, there are various plugins to do that. I haven’t tried this one, but it should work.

    As for excluding only certain events and not others, though — I’m not sure. But the author stated that the ability to “exclude events from main loop” is a feature of the upcoming 1.6 release.

    If there is a way to solve this problem without another plugin, I’d of course prefere this. But thanks for your post, I’m looking forward to version 1.6 ??

    Hey Anointed. We are all jazzed about custom post types. We discussed it a couple months back and decided to wait to see how the final version of custom post types would play out before changing things. That seems like a good task for 1.7, as 1.6 is getting a bit too far along for that kind of re-engineering.

    Yes, I am also jazzed about post types. Have been playing around with 3.0 for awhile now and absolutely love the new functionality. It’s really going to open huge doors for very custom plugins in the very near future. I really look forward to seeing what you guys come up with in 1.7

    Any updates on this? I’ve been using WP3.0 and would love to start separating Events from Posts.

    still the same. We are hoping to release another beta tomorrow of 1.6. then if all is clear, put that puppy out there and then get to the next evolution.

    i was just wondering about this. guess i should put in a vote for event post types. that would be sweet.

    Shoot… I was hoping this would be a simple thing to do. Using Custom Post Types is so obvious though. Looking forward to seeing that in 1.7. The only thing that has stopped me from using your plugin is that I really hate the idea of having my events mixed in with my blog posts.

    So… question… if I go ahead and start using your plugin now… will the adoption of custom post types in 1.7 mean that I will have to re-enter all of my events? Or will the transition to custom post types be seamless?

    Archon: You’ll probably have to cough up some dough for any WordPress 3 features.

    Premium eh? That’s understandable but no custom post types + no recurrence = no sale. Not a chance. I’ll check back in 6 months.
