Ever since I upgraded to WP 3.3.1 i’ve been noticing that there’s some sort of bug with the event permalinks. I can’t completely wrap my mind around what’s going on, but on certain events — with similar event names & so many dashes in the automatically created permalinks — when you go to click on the event (in the calender or event list), it redirects to the homepage of the site instead of going to the event’s page.

  • Hi createdbrazen12. That’s an odd – and alarming – issue. If there’s a bug there we definitely want to fix it for 2.1. Any chance you could share a few examples with links so we could document this?

    I’m having the same problem.
Its only happening on a couple of events.
I am using plugins redirection and better SEO.
But like createdbrazen can’t seem to find any reason.

    If this helps
When I update an event redirection plugin adds a new redirection to homepage and also a venue page.
I can’t explain it. Redirection is normally very reliable.
    Best

Definitley to do with Redirection plugin URL Monitoring
Set to off – no problem.
However this feature of redirection is rather useful.
Is the slug being rewritten each time the event is updated?

Hey Luke, we’ve been exchanging emails on this right? Just wanted to make sure you didn’t need a follow-up since we’re already talking ?? Let me know.

Hi, I have been having the same problem…

I’m afraid I moved away. Found it easier to build my own custom post type and used jquery fullcalendar. Gave me more flexibility

Glad to hear you found your own solution, Luke. Thanks for confirming as much.

Astrid: can you update to The Events Calendar 2.0.10, and WordPress 3.4.2? Those are older builds of both the plugin and WP so there’s a good chance issues could be fixed by updating to the latest stable versions. Give it a go and let me know the results.

I have the same issue, once I update an event, it gets redirected to the home page. If I manually update a permalink for a given event, then update it, it starts working normally.

I have tried to install the Events plugin on a Yahoo server that I use for my personal website and tested it by activating and deactivating some plugins. So, once I deactivate a Customizable Permalinks plugin powered by Yahoo, I get into the same problem with the events. When it gets updated, it redirects to the Home page.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

A good rule of thumb whenever you’re having permalink / redirect issues is to go to your settings > permalinks page and just hit save and close. That flushes the permalink system and can solve otherwise baffling bugs.

I have tried to change the Permalinks settings from custom structure : /%postname%/
    to a default one: /?p=123.

It fixed the problem with Events permalinks, I was able to update an event successfully. But of course it changed all my permalinks for static pages as well. I’d like to use pretty permalinks for my pages.

Does anyone know how to make it work?

Hi svelvchik: unfortunately as it stands turning on default permalinks (ie /?p=123) is a known problem with The Events Calendar and a lot about the plugin breaks in any circumstance when pretty permalinks aren’t turned on.

Does that help? Or are you saying you want default permalinks for events, but regular permalinks for pages/posts/etc?

    @roblagatta

    Hi,
I am saying that when I use the pretty permalinks for my wp website and trying to update an event, I see that update function fires but when I try to view an event after updating, it goes to the home page. But when I set up permalinks to the default once, it works ok. I would prefer to use the pretty links of course.

Here is a link to the updated event:

It gets redirected to the home page.

I have a similar issue: our events redirect to the venue page, if a venue is present in the event.
