[Plugin: The OpenHook Customizations Manager] OpenHook Fail

  • After installing the latest version of OpenHook (3.2.1) it totally broke my site. Yes, I did run the updater.

    It was hard to say what the problem was because some of the hooks ran, but others didn’t. Absolutely no WordPress hooks ran.

    All of the settings transferred to 3+ of OpenHook, I checked that, but it seems they were mostly ignored.

    This plugin isn’t ready for prime time. It’s not even alpha.

    Oh, and in terms of useability, the old method of having all the hooks on one page, visible, is better. It worked very well. I know sometimes the instinct is to “clean things up,” but what actually happened is that you hid everything.

    Other new features seemed to be good, from what I briefly saw, before downgrading.

    You had a great plugin. Hopefully it will be great again in the future.

    We have built several WP sites with Thesis + OpenHook, and this update caused a near-crisis for us and our clients’ sites, especially those who performed the update without consulting us first (thanks for releasing on a Saturday!)

    One of my sites lost all its hook data completely in the upgrade. I’m currently trying to figure out if it can be restored.

    Fail.

    I might be able to top you. I sent an email to a client and told him NOT to update (trying to be proactive) and he didn’t pay attention to what I actually wrote. He updated immediately and broke his site.

    I’m not telling my other clients anything.

    Bill – We’re in the process of drafting an email to ALL past and current clients that have Thesis sites to address this topic specifically. Trying to head off other crises.

    I was able to restore most of my clients’ hooks by checking the Thesis and WP boxes on the settings screen.

    If the plugin formerly accepted both Thesis and WP hooks, then to include these both should have been a default action of upgrading and reactivating.
