Plugin to build table from metadata?

Before I go off and write a plugin to do what I need…

I’ve been searching far and wide for a couple hours for a plugin that can build a table from metadata in my uploaded media files. A use case may clarify what I’m trying to do:

I have a bunch of monthly financial reports (PDF files) uploaded to my site (with new reports coming every month). I want a page that simply has a table of all the reports listed in date-order. And I want this page to automatically update and show new reports when I upload them. (Now extend this across several document types…)

My thinking is that I would simply tag each report using either metadata or a filename pattern and find a plugin that could query the media based on this metadata and build a list of links to the documents, sorted based on upload date.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t even need to be a table (a list will do).

Anyone know of anything that exists or do I need to start writing my own plugin?
