Plugin to make posting code easier?

Specifically, I’m looking for a plugin that adds only this to WordPress: ability to use backticks to write code segments in my posts, just like how we could do it here on WordPress support forums, and one that doesn’t eat away indents.

I’m also wondering though, does this method create problems? Anyone who’s posting lots of code, if you could share some experiences, it’d be much appreciated.

At the moment I’m looking at the Code Autoescape plugin, and wondering if I could convert it to use backtickes instead of <code>. Anyone know of disadvantages of using backtickes this way?
