Plugin to prevent email overload

Is it possible for a plugin to compile a daily digest of emails and send them all out as one instead of getting a bunch of emails throughout the day as comments are posted?

Perhaps a filter/action could save to a database field any emails that try to get sent, then once a day (via wp-cron), that field will get flushed and the contents of it sent to the administrator.
