Plugin to put 'more' link in middle of excerpt?

  • I am looking for a plugin (or hack!) to enable the ‘more’ (‘continue reading’) link to be placed within the excerpt, rather than at the very end.

    Sounds daft? The reason is that the post consists of a detailed description of a product, but the category page needs to show the excerpt from that description, followed by the price at the bottom. The ‘read more’ link needs to come at the end of the excerpt from the description, but before the price.

    I have looked for plugins, but cannot find anything to do that. Is it possible?

    OK, it seems clear that this is not going to be possible. Not such a great hardship, as it is not difficult to hand code the links at the position that I want them to appear.

    However, that leaves the issue of removing the ‘read more’ link that appears at the bottom of the excerpt. How does one do that? I am using ‘the_excerpt’ as it contains thumbnail images, and other items, so a short version of ‘the_content’ is not acceptable. I can find a number of plugins to edit and style the ‘read more’ link, but nothing to remove it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
