[Plugin: Top Level Categories] Pagination for Categories Broken

  • It looks like this plug in has not been updated since 2008 – does it mean it’s dead and I should look for a replacement?

    Under 2.8.x the pagination for categories doesn’t work. Everything is fine on first page, but going to second page returns dreaded 404 error. If I manually type in category/ after the domain name and before the permalink, it works fine, which clearly shows this plug in only takes care of first page and not of the rest. If this plug in is dead and will not receive further updates to address serious issues such as this one, I would like to know so I can look for replacement.

    OK, so this plug-in is dead. What’s a decent substitution? Anyone can recommend one that works?

    You should have first checked the plugin site for information about that issue before claiming a plugin is dead! As it seems, you were just too lazy to dig into your problem by taking a look at the Plugin Homepage.

    But, to make it easy for you… here’s the sollution that I herewith bluntly quote from the Plugin Homepage:

    This is a known issue, for which there is unfortunately no good workaround. If you add a suffix to your permalink structure (such as .html) you can fix this issue. For example, try %category%/%postname%.html — I realize this is not ideal, but there is no good solution for this issue.

    So, just make sure your “permalinks” use a file-extention and not a backslash and you’re settled.

    Case closed.
