Here’s the answer.

Edit the file:
./template/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.min.css

Find this line:
.modal-backdrop,.modal-backdrop.fade.in{opacity:0.8;filter:alpha(opacity=80);}

IE uses “opacity=80” while all other browsers use “opacity:0.8”.

Lower the values to make the image brighter.
