This error makes me think you’re maybe on an older unsupported of PHP. We recommend PHP 7 and require 5.6 at the latest. Older versions are unsupported by PHP itself (though they’ll still work) but there’s a lot of issues by using software past it’s end of life so I’d recommend you upgrade ANYWAY!

If you’re on a cPanel you may be able to upgrade your PHP version yourself. But not all cPanels let you so you may need to contact your host.

I think I have PHP 5.4! I think that’s the problem…

Yep, 5.4 reached its end of life more than 2 years ago (https://php.net/eol.php) please upgrade to 7 (or at least 5.6) and let me know how it goes.
