[Plugin: User Role Editor] Contributor with no publish right can update / published post already pub

  • Hey,

    First of all, great plugin for multisite WP. My request / question regards post / page publishing right.

    I have set 2 types of users : contributor who prepare post and author who can review and published them. Contributor is able to edit a published post, but all modifications should be reviewed by a authors before being published. Right now once a post his published, contributor modification are published too (unless he reset the post status to draft or pending review).

    Any idea to turn this around?

    It is not enough URE plugin here. Post or page status should be changed from ‘published’ to ‘draft’ if contributor changed it. It could be done with other plugin. WordPress has the hook to the post/page save action which can be used in such plugin.

    The thing is when the article is back to draft, it is not available anymore online, think I don’t want to do for this project.

    What a great plugin.

    I have a problem you might be able to help me to solve.

    I have an author who post automatically to my blog. To do this he needs to be an “editor” (don’t ask me why, but so it is..).

    But since I would like to make some small changes to his postings, I would like his article to be uploaded as drafts.

    How do I edit (using your plugin) the editor role so that it can’t publish but only saving to draft, but still keep all the other attributions of an editor?

    Hi Michael,

    Try to exclude ‘publish_pages’ and ‘publish_posts’ capabilities from the ‘Editor’ role.
    Please be aware of that ‘Editor’ role allows to edit already published pages and posts including created by others.

    It didn’t work out the way expected.
    The “Editor” now can’t post at all.

    May be there is need to change auto-upload script in order it send posts in draft state? I suppose that as script send post in published state, it cann’t do that after you revoke publish capability from the editor role.
