[Plugin: Video Thumbnails] Conflict with Thumbnails For Excerpts is causing two images on homepage

    I am using Thumbnails For Excerpts plugin which is causing the following issues (At this point, I must use this plugin for my posts without videos. If a choice must be made I cannot use Video Thumbnails, but if a solution could be offered, it would be much appreciated)

    When neither save images to library or set as featured image are selected, video thumbnail shows up on post edit page, but does not display on homepage.

    When save images is selected, but not set as featured image, image is saved to library, video thumbnail shows up on post edit page, but does not display on homepage.

    When both save image to library and set as featured image are selected, featured image displays on post edit page, and two images display side by side on homepage.

    Removing featured image from post edit page removes both images from homepage.

    Resetting video thumbnail displays two images on homepage, and adds a second image to the media library.

    With only Video Thumbnails activated it all works fine, and is a great plugin.

    Following up on this. If I set neither save to library of featured post, I don’t get the double images on the homepage, but it does pull a thumbnail to the edit post page. I can then capture the image and insert it into my post which allows Thumbnails For Excerpts to display the image on the homepage. Clumsy way of doing it but easier than trying to capture the image from the video myself.

    And interestingly enough, even though no image shows up on the homepage, when I post the post to Facebook it somehow finds the Video Thumbnails image and uses it.

    If you upload an image to a non-video post and “set as featured image” do you also get doubled thumbnails?

    My guess is that your theme already has the code for featured images, which is showing one of the video thumbnails on your post. Then the plugin probably checks for a featured image or the first image in a post and adds it to the excerpt, which would show a second thumbnail for posts with a featured image (like those set manually by you or by video thumbnails).

    My suggestion for if setting a featured image on a non-video post also shows two thumbnails is disabling the other plugin and setting a featured image when creating a post. Otherwise you’ll need to dig into your theme’s code just a little and get it to do the same thing. Since that plugin hasn’t been updated since 2009, you’re bound to run into some other problems sooner or later.
