[Plugin: Viper's Video Quicktags] Embedding videos in feeds!

  • Under additional settings there is an option for feed text because “you can’t embed videos in feeds”. Can there be an option to embed the video instead of showing alternate text? This would be a dream come true for me.

    Isn’t it possible to embed videos in feeds? I watch YouTube videos in Google Reader all the time. Is this an easy option to add??

    Thank you for this plugin. I will definitely donate once my site is closer to launching.

    It’s possible, but not all feed readers can display embedded videos. Most desktop and mobile feed readers simply display a blank space because they lack Flash support, hence the option to display text in the feed instead of the video. It at least tells the readers that they would see a video if they viewed the post in a normal browser.

    It’s not possible as my plugin embeds videos using Javascript (SWFObject).

    However the next version of my plugin will use good ol’ <object> tags which means that any feed reader that supports it should display videos.

    I’ll of course have fallback text for the situation that James describes.

    Viper, any specifics on when we can expect that release?
