While W3TC is mostly working perfectly for me I am having a definite issue with cache invalidation.

I’ve noticed after publishing a couple of posts that the Category view and my home page is not updated.

As a logged-in user everything obviously works as it should but it’s frustrating me to think that my visitors are not getting the most up-to-date information.

It’s probably a mis-configuration at my end. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, how did you fix it?

  • In the ~4 months of W3TC’s existence at this point, there’s been only 1 other report like this. No one seems to provide the browser details or settings being used, so I’m unable to troubleshoot.

More than likely there’s a browser being used that actually respects the headers that are set and as a result doesn’t update the cache until the expiration date. ??

Anyway, you can always try lowering your expiration time in the page cache settings tab or you can experiment with removing the headers from the input box and tell me what you find.

Sorry Frederick, I should have mentioned the browser at the very least.

It’s Safari 4 on OS X. You’re right I guess, the browser is probably just respecting the tags.

What’s a reasonable caching time? I’m currently set for 24 hours.

If you post several times per day and are using database caching as well, you can get away with 3 or even 1h. If you notice your site slowing down, you can always increase, while decreasing is more difficult.

That’s great. Thank you for the advice.

    You’re welcome.
