[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Expiration tags / Leverage browser caching

  • Try as I might, I keep getting page speed sites telling me to leverage browser caching.

    From what I understand W3TC does not support images hosted off site?

    Okay so be it. But I am still getting self hosted files that are showing up with no expiration date?

    I’ve browser caching selected, and everything within selected. And still, nothing. Including expiry dates for W3TC’s own minfy css files?

    Just wonder if what the problem maybe?

    Also is there a sample htaccess file around with just W3TC written to it, so I may compare?

    Define hosted off-site? Setting browser caching policies with W3TC will only apply to files you host. Try using webpagestest.org to see specifically what files are missing the headers so you can address with greater insight.

    By hosted off I mean by photographs are hosted on a photo hosting service (zenfolio).

    I ran the test on webpagetest.org and it came back with this. So I understand that this mean these images cannot have expiry headers. Is this correct?

    Expiry dates here only show jpeg cookies up to 2021.

    I’ve also run tests on https://gtmetrix.com and it telling me w3tc minify js and css files are (expiration not specified), as well as jpgs.

    Any ideas?

    That photo hosting service provider doesn’t set ideal headers, you will need to contact them about that directly unless there are some controls in your account with them for that.

    I’m having a similar problem. Decent page speed, but can’t shake the leverage browser caching/specify image dimensions issue. No surprise to you, I’m sure – but the problem images are on my home page. Obviously, I’m not a pro.

    I’m using photobucket, and I’ve looked for any and all modification settings. Can’t find anything. What photo hosting service provider would you recommend? If not external, how do you get a url for an image internally?

    There’s a WP plugin that will follow the remote hosted URL’s of your images, places a copy of the picture in your local Media Library, and then attaches the Media image to your post. The end result is that all of your image thumbs now work in WordPress.

    Search the plugin library for “Add Linked Images To Gallery” by Randy Hunt. It really saved me a lot of headaches!

    I have kind of the same issue. The only red light I get from Page Speed is the “Leverage browser caching”.

    I’ve enabled all the settings, but I’m not sure, what is missing. Cache Control Policy is set to “cache with max age”

    If you can leverage browser caching, you can increase website speed considerably. As Google starts considering site speed as a SEO parameter, webmasters can leverage browser caching to improve site speed
