• I’ve spend the last couple hours playing around with widget logic. Really like it. This will open some doors for me. My skill level is at the point where I am creating a page template and then having to assign a unique sidebar to it every single time. Very cumbersome.

That being said, I noticed that I have to have one main sidebar area in my widgets panel with all my widgets in it for Widget Logic to work. Just for organizational purposes I would still like to have those defined widget areas as defined in my functions.php file (the first sidebar, the second sidebar etc..)

Anyway way to be able to set-up the functions.php in this way to work with widget logic?

Hope i’m not confusing you here.

  • yeah, i’m not really sure what you are asking or what the problem is.

‘I noticed that I have to have one main sidebar area in my widgets panel with all my widgets in it for Widget Logic to work’

This shouldn’t be the case — WL should work with multiple sidebars OK. there is a WL field for each widget in each sidebar.

    Yeah sorry for the confusion.

Before I ran into this great widget (I like unique sidebars), I was creating a page template and assignning a sidebar to it. Very cumbersome. However, it was orgainized. I would for example have a page one, page two as areas in my widget panel and then underneath each I would have the sidbar widgets assigned to each.

At first with this widget I was finding that having lots of different widgets under one sidebar “header” and then assigning those widgets to different pages was great, but confusing as you couldn’t see the page delineation as easily.

So, my question was if I could create “fake” areas in the widget panel just for organization purposes of all my widgets. That way I could still organize my widgets, however be assigning to various pages through widget logic and conditionals.

I thought I could just do this througn functions.php, but couldn’t get it to work.

if it’s very complex, multiple sidebars might still be the best way to go.

you could i suppose fake a ‘header widget’ by having text widgets with WL ‘false’ (so they never appear) with the title and content used as you like.
