I am using the ‘WordPress Classic’ theme. I downloaded and installed the sidebar widgets program and activated it. I now see ‘Sidebar Widgets’ in the presentation tab, but when I click on it I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_deregister_script() in /home/public_html/journal/wp-content/plugins/widgets/widgets.php on line 204

Any ideas as to what went wrong?

There’s a version of widgets for 2.0 and another for 2.1. Did you get the right one for your version of WordPress?

Thank you. It would appear that I did indeed download a version only compatable with 2.1 and higher.

Now the question is: Do I need to upgrade? (Really? Because I’ve read those directions and it seems quite painfully difficult…from backing up WP to installing the new software…)

    OR

Can you shoot me the link for the 2.0 version of the sidebar widget?

    Thanks again!

You rock! Thanks again. I have got this working now.

    Hi all,

I have just installed WP 2.2. Followed the instructions and disabled all my plugins etc.

Post a successful upgrade, I activated all my plugins fine except for Sidebar-Widgets which errors with:

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

And remains “Grey” in my plugin list.

However when I go to my home page the widgets I’ve selected are there.

I’m using version 1.2.1.20070210b which is the 2.1.x up version.

    Any ideas on a resolution?

    Thanks all.

You don’t need this with 2.2…:-)

    ‘Important

Widgets are now part of WordPress core! If you are running WordPress 2.2 or later, you do not need to install the Widgets plugin. You can proceed straight to the WordPress Widgets Blog to find some widgets to try out.’
