As of a few days ago the plugin won’t stay connected to my addthis account for more than a few hours. I will login successfully but a few hours later the share buttons are missing from my site and when I check the plugin settings it asks me to login again. I’ve tried creating a manual connection using Profile ID and API, I was logged out there too.

    Hi there!

Thanks for letting us know about this issue, I’m going to report this to our product team to investigate.

In the meantime, when you said “creating a manual connection using Profile ID”, were you inserting your profile ID into the ‘addthis_config’ in the Advanced Settings?

Also, can you share with us the URL of your website so we can see if we have any alternative solution as our team looks into this issue?

    Thanks,
    Leland

    Hi,

I have an update on this issue. I have a staging site that also has the plugin installed, and it was not updated to the most recent version. I updated the plugin on the staging site and so far have stayed logged in on my live site. I’ll continue to monitor and update if I am disconnected.

Also, by creating a manual connection I mean I used the Create Manual Connection option on the screen that asks me to sign in to my account.

Hi, just updating you that I am still being logged out of my account so updating the plugin on my staging site did not help.

Thanks for all of this information. I’ve reported this issue to our team and they will look into this as soon as they can.

In the meantime, what you can do to make sure your profile remains configured is to set your profile ID for the addthis_config setting, within the Advanced Settings of the plugin. To set this go under AddThis > Advanced Settings and then look for addthis_config.

Here’s a walkthrough that will show you how to add the code:

The code you’ll want to add is:
    {“pubid”:”ra-1234567890″}

Please swap out ra-1234567890 in the above code with your Profile ID.

Let me know if this works!

    Thanks,
    Leland

Hi, I’ve added that code you shared and replaced it with my profile ID but I do not see the share buttons displaying on my site. They should be showing on this page, for example https://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/9-ways-to-save-money-on-ebay

When I went to your site, I was able to see the share buttons:

Have you made any changes since your last update or is this the result of the recommendation?

    Thanks,
    Leland

It’s possible things weren’t displaying immediately after I implemented your suggestion due to caching. I too am seeing the share buttons.

I have another question though, I notice the page you’re on is not secure, are you doing something to cause it to not load the https version of the site, or is that how it loaded for you? I’m curious because if it didn’t load securely for you I want to look in to what might be causing that problem.

Hi, another update: The share links are no longer showing on my site.

Thanks for all of this update, I’ve escalated this to our engineers to fix.

In the meantime, there is another way to use AddThis and it will guarantee that this disconnect issue won’t happen again and that is to install AddThis script directly into your theme files.

Here are the instructions if you want to give this a try:

    Here are the instructions:
    1.) Deactivate all AddThis plugins
    2.) Hover over Appearance –> Editor –> footer.php
3.) Scroll down until you see </body>
4.) Insert this code right above </body>:
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”//s7.addthis.com/js/300/addthis_widget.js#pubid=ra-570333fb0d05a645″></script>
5.) Save the changes to that file

Video I created for you showing step by step:

Let me know if this works and thank you so much for your patience as we get this issue situated.

    Thanks,
    Leland

Thank you, that appears to be working.

Also, just a reminder about my question regarding the site not being secure when you visited, thanks in advance for a response.

Ahh my apologies for skipping that question.

When I went back to your site to see if I can spot any console errors, it appears that the SSL is going through without any hiccups on my end:

I’m not sure what happened in that last screenshot but if I do encounter that again, I’ll let you know.

    Thanks,
    Leland
