[Plugin: WordPress Beta Tester] FAIL after activation

  • First 3 steps:
    # Upload to your plugins folder, usually wp-content/plugins/
    # Activate the plugin on the plugin screen.
    # Navigate to Tools … Beta Testing to configure the plugin.

    *FAIL*
    As soon as I activated I lost access to Admin.
    No joy; I’ve lost access to Admin viz,:
    “Fatal error: Call to undefined function register_setting() in /home/.taos/bentrm/issuepress.com/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/wp-beta-tester.php on line 35?”

    I’m totally lost. Not time critical, but I’m in the ditch.

    p.s. It might help to have this or some other page linked as “Plugin Homepage”.

    I renamed the plugin and restored access to Admin. (Sure wish we could edit items here.)

    You need to upgrade WordPress itself to the latest stable version before trying to be a beta tester.

    Sync. I just came back to add “Upgrading to 2.9.2 now”.
    Added 2 nonce lines to config and things are running fine. (Since this is critical, shouldn’t it be mentioned on the Plugin page?)

    I should have mentionned: running this on WPMU as per Testing the automatic upgrade to WordPress 3.0

    Okay: T)ools, Beta, Bleeding edge. Saved.
    T)ools Upgrade: “You are about to install WordPress 2.9.2 in English.”
    That’s confusing
    “Download Nightly” points to /nightly-builds/wordpress-mu-latest.zip
    That’s confusing too.
    “Automatic” installed that file. Isn’t latest MU 2.9.2 (which I had just installed)? That’s what footer reads.
    “Click on Dashboard Icon” … poof, magic.

    Uh-oh, another nonce to add to config.
    Should I leave the 2 from WPMU? for a total of 3?

    Okay, updated Network w/o obvious problems.

    Let’s say everything is fine. I’m going to need a walk-through on this:
    “The wp-content/blogs.php file is deprecated. Please remove it and update your server rewrite rules to use wp-includes/ms-files.php instead.”

    Finale: “Update server rewrite rules” entailed replacing wp-content/blogs.php with wp-includes/ms-files.php in .htaccess … an error-prone step, but things seem well.
