• I tried moving from one server to another where both are running on WP 3.1 platform. First time, it crashed. Then subsequent attempts showed plugin failed because WP Importer folder already exists in destination server. I cannot see the folder via my FTP so I am puzzled as I have nothing to delete.

Shame there is no other options to import – except via this plugin :-/

  • I’m not sure what you mean by “plugin failed because WP Importer folder already exists in destination server”.

Are you sure you’re using the WordPress WXR file importer (accessed from the admin panel via Tools > Import > WordPress)? This doesn’t sound like an error message returned by this plugin.

    Hi Jon

I have added a link which is a screen dump of the error message that came back. If you are able to shed any light to this, that would be fantastic.

    Thanks
    Tony

So that’s a problem whilst installing the plugin. Have you tried looking for the directory in FTP again? I’m sure it must be there for that install error to occur.

I have looked in both server file directories but could not find any signs of the errant folder. I think the plunging might have switched the state saying that a folder alr

    eady exists.

I can confirm this. I have the samy problem: Install of the wordpress importer fails with error-msg:

    Destination folder already exists. /wp-content/plugins/wordpress-importer/

The solution is to download the plugin manually:

    https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/wordpress-importer.zip

Then activate it as you would any other plugin.
