• This plugin does not do what they promise!

Seriously, If youre looking to buy a plugin for membership blogs this plugin does only the half of what they say on their site.

I purchased this plugin at $99 a few days ago, and here is what I discovered. I needed a plugin for membership blog and like everyone else I was blind sighted by the promises that I saw on this plugin website about USER SUBSCRIPTION AUTOMATION. Now they are dependent on PayPal for this feature. So, here is what they replied to me on my request:

There are 3 ways to have person register with membership site:
    1. Send him to https://www.YOUR-SITE-NAME.com/wp-login.php to register as “subscriber”
    2. With memberwing – without charging him any fees: follow these instructions:
    https://www.memberwing.com/memberwing-plugin/how-to-add-free-members-to-membership-site-without-payment/
    3. With MemberWing by creating “join” page, creating “subscribe” button via paypal, pasting paypal “subscribe” button into “join” page and following instructions here:
    https://www.memberwing.com/software/wordpress-membership-site-plugin-memberwing/memberwing-user-guide/

I choose the 3rd option and did everything by books but heres what I found when testing it! When users Subscribe and checkout on PayPal its MANDATORY that they create a PayPal account unless they have one, fair enough and understood because PayPal is responsible for managing user subscriptions so it needs to keep a record of user information their subscription date etc. Seriously No offense, but I think this process should have been integrated into the plugin itself, which is not the case and here’s what I get in another reply from my support request:

    Hello,
You are correct in your estimation that some users would not like to join Paypal to join membership site.
It could be too much hassles for people and lost sales for membership site business owners.

I would rather not get into full blown e-commerce shopping cart development but use existing services.
One of the viable alternative to Paypal is 2checkout.com. They do support recurring payments and seems to allow API for integration with other scripts.

I will look into integrating 2CO in memberwing as next enhancement.

Thank you for your detailed concern!

    Gleb

Pretty comforting thought, now I have client who needs this system up and running before this guy pulls off his sleeves and finishes up with the 2checkout.com integration. Screw them! I can’t wait for that long and neither does my client, so here’s what I did I purchased another plugin hopefully which has all the promises they make!

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY THIS ILL-COOKED PLUGIN THEN DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. STAY AWAY AND TRY ANOTHER PLUGIN. THESE GUYS ARE PROBABLY LAZY AND NAIVE SINCE THEY HAVE TO DEPEND ON PAYPAL FOR SUCH FEATURES

  • i’ve recently purchased wp-member for $32 and had a hell of a time getting it to do what they said it would. when i tested it and signrd up for a free subscription i was emailed a password like i should have. the problem was when i went to my site and signed with the username and password it sent me to the dashboard of my blog. WTF, i can’t have everyone accessing my site like this. i was wondering if you had any suggestions on a good membership plugin? please advise

    anithegregorian,
Your concerns were addressed and 2Checkout is already integrated into MemberWing.

MemberWing now have 4 options to offer recurring payments – Paypal directly, PayDotCom, 2Checkout and Clickbank.
MemberWing also works with Rapid Action Profits affiliate system by Sid Hale that has special recurring payment addon. So it could be fifth.

New features and payment processor support are added every day.
I am always ready to help, answer questions and add custom features.

just wanted to point out something to sjc…that is *default WP behavior* and has nothing to do with the plugin. once someone registers on the blog and logs in (assuming there’s no redirect URL), that person will be sent immediately to the wp dashboard. now, assuming that you have members signing up as subscribers only, they won’t have access to much more than their profile page and the dashboard homepage where they can see your blog stats, but you don’t have to worry because they can’t write posts or edit comments or etc.

*nb: i am not affiliated with any of the plugins mentioned, simply wanted to clear up the whole users going to the dashboard thing.

This whole company seems sketchy to me, and I haven’t heard one good thing about them from a non-SPAMmy source. I’d love to see someone develop a free membership plugin, particularly if all this does is act as middle man to PayPal. You don’t need a plugin to do that.

unfortuntely there is no right plugin available for free that best support to manage wordpress membership site .

Whils most of the free membership plugins have have various limitations like paymant integration ,SEO promotional lacking other premium plugins like memberwing,wp-member,amember have protected thier plugin with encoding so it you can modifty the code as you want so it will not be felixible sit and manage from your blog

finally i found a premium wordpress membership plugin(aff) comes for 35$ ,threre are lot of other good things but only thing i can specify here is ( the source code is not encoded ) so it can be easily integrated with your blog than other membership plugins

I actually figured out a way to make this membership plugin work. It took going into the mysql database to see what was going on. I will post just in case somebody wants to know. I am using Google checkout. It is a workaround until they fix it the way it should work.

Once the order for subscription was processed through Google (my case) I would then go to the “sales” in e-commerce and go ahead and “accept payment”, noting the users email address. Once I had that, I launched phpmyadmin and accessed the database. Two tables are important here, the “users” table and the “logged_subscription” tables. That is where the user ID’s are supposed to be synchronized. Simply add the user ID for the appropriate user (found in the “users” table) to the “user_id” field in the “logged_subscription” table. The other fields in that table are for the duration of the account (seconds I believe) and 0/1 enable/disable. These latter two should be left alone. At this point you should see the account listed in the “e-commerce subscriptions” tab in the WordPress Admin panel. Hope this helps some. I can’t believe I got it to work with Google.
