• Hi, I would like to be able to exclude a specific IP-address from the “most popular posts”-stats. The owner of the website I set up has set the website to be the homepage in his browser and I would like to prevents this from poluting the stats. Is it possible to add this functionality to a future version?

  • Hi,

WordPress Popular Posts won’t count views on the homepage by default, only views on posts and pages (and only if there’s no user logged in into wp-admin) so I wouldn’t worry about that.

However, I’ve been studying the possibility to include this feature with a different goal in mind: preventing bots and crawlers from increasing the views count while crawling your site. Maybe I can add an extra functionality to exclude views from specific IP addresses, as you suggested.

    Thanks for your feedback!

Excellent idea! When will this be implemented?

    Hi sondon,

There’s no ETA for this yet as there are other areas of my plugin that need more attention now.

As the a blog owner I find my own browsing while checking and editing posts is skewing the stats. Is there anyway to prevent my own visits from being counted — either by a list of user IDs to exclude or by a list of user roles to exclude?

    From Maintenance Settings:

WordPress Popular Posts keeps historical data of your most popular entries for up to 30 days.

    From readme.txt:

WordPress Popular Posts will wipe out from its cache automatically all those posts that have not been viewed more than 30 days from the current date, keeping the popular ones on the list!

The question is: Are these excerpts (in spirit) identical? The first suggests that after 30 days all data will be wiped (from cache)?!, but the second affirm that will be wiped only those posts that have not been viewed more than 30 days?! Which one is correct?

I just discovered another thing: pages also are registered by the plugin. How to exclude specific pages, like “Contact” page, or even all, of our choice?

    A partial answer from Help:

What does “Include pages” do? If checked, WordPress Popular Posts will also list the most viewed pages on your blog. Enabled by default.

    Hi,

    Like your WordPress-Popular-Posts very much.

Found it a bit late in the day though…

Is there any way I can adjust the view count to reflect total views over past few months..?

    many thanks,
