I just installed the WP Popular Posts plugin and the views are not reflective of the views showing on my articles. For example an article with over 2,500 views shows only 16 views on the plugin display. It seems to be counting from when I installed the plugin (yesterday) rather than taking the views from my database. Anyone know how to fix this? The comments count seems to be okay. Thanks!

  • Hi wildbug,

Yup, you’re right: WordPress Popular Posts starts collecting data about your entries from the moment you install it. As far as I know, WordPress itself doesn’t collect the number of views a post gets (just keeps count of the number of comments people have left on it) and that’s why my plugin exists: to give you the chance to start colleting this data and show it to your users.

It’s not really a bug, WordPress Popular Posts actually gives your blog a functionality that your blog didn’t have out-of-the-box.

Thanks. But I have been using a Page Views plugin so the views you are showing do not match the views I am showing on my articles. Is there any way to pull the views from that plugin?? Otherwise the views count is inaccurate unless I started using your plugin from day one of my site going live, which I didn’t. My site has been around for several years so I would love the all time views count to reflect past traffic to my site. Any way to do this fairly easily? Thanks!!

I see. Unfortunately, my plugin doesn’t detect the existance of data created by another one. I might try to create a way to “export” this data into my plugin in the future, however it can’t be done now.

I remember seeing someone posting about this issue not long. The user stated that he found a way to migrate the data successfully into my plugin, you might want to try and contact him: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/423294#post-1596680

Thanks for this, very helpful! It would be cool if future versions of your plugin could give the option of importing views from several of the more popular post views plugins…not sure if that is possible. Thanks again!
